Whispers, talk of who is on the ballot for this year’s election. Voices speaking on the horrors of both parties, strong opinions on both sides. Lines full of hopeful people feeling as though they’re doing the right thing. The grocery store was full of folks wearing red, white and blue stickers noting what thousands have done across the country. The air was tense with worry, anxiety and hopefulness that the best person won the race. Though not everyone agrees on the best person for the job, most agree that the election brings fear to the front door of the commoner.
The next day, votes are in, and the person elected has been revealed. My fellow co-worker, looked exhausted in a devastating way, could barely bring a smile to her face as customers came and went from her cashier lane. Folks assuming any downward face meant they were upset over the results, it further hit home that most people have hopes that laws will change things. Laws don’t change hearts God does. Though laws can reveal the exact nature of individuals. People have always been who they are, and the intent has always been what it is whether for good or evil.
Though a law can match a godly worldview that doesn’t mean it changes the heart of people. Jesus died for all people, no matter the political party or societal views Jesus died for ALL people. He loves the soulless, wretched, and the “good person” more than enough to die for them. No matter what we all need Jesus to save our souls from permanent separation from God. Sin is death, and death without repentance is eternal hell. Yet with Jesus, sin is death and a repented soul is new life eternal with God. We all have sinned, so we all need God to change our hearts, wipe us clean and create a new creature.
When a person confesses with their heart that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior. Living then dying on the cross, rising on the third day, that person is made right with God, that is justification. Sanctification is living life with God as He corrects toxic and sinful behaviors, patterns and cycles, a purging of the soul to become more like Jesus through The Holy Spirit dwelling in our souls. Glorification is when we die, returning to God to go home with Him.
God is for everyone, unfortunately everyone is not for God. Choose who you want to worship because both God and self cannot be served, one cannot serve two masters. I do my best to serve God daily. Life with God is messy and beautiful but He is faithful through it all and with that I can be faithful to Him.
