Laundromat. The smell of Gain washing powder in the air, the quiet hum of dryers and washers spinning clothes on high. Washing things that sit closer than any other object. Quiet, no crowd, tucked in the corner while my valuables dry. Reading God’s word, 1 Timothy had been holding my attention. Chapter four made my mouth drop because God just revealed why certain folks were removed from my life. I’ve dated men that considered certain foods to be unclean and abstained from those foods, when God has said that everything He has made is good and when eaten with thanksgiving it is sanctified through His word and prayer. I’ve dated men that don’t believe in marriage but are more than happy to shack up and most definitely want to have sex.
Marriage began in the beginning with Adam and Eve. It is the foundation of one of our duties to create children, it also mirrors the relationship Jesus has with the church, it keeps us from sexual sin and furthers the reality that two is better than one. Marriage was the first community God created through humans, He made all things good. All natural foods are good, including animals. When God was done creating light, the earth, animals, Adam and Eve, He called everything good. It’s very important to not take the bible out of context. After sin, before Jesus there was no way for man to have a relationship with God. We were constantly apart from God and no amount of sacrifices could make us right with God. He called on certain people to be His servant, He chose them to hold His Holy Spirit.
The context of the law in the Old Testament was a tool to show what God deemed as holy and sinful and how mankind could never live up to those things without Jesus. The law was not created to be held onto more than God, it was created to show mankind that we need God to be holy. We need the blood of Jesus to be right with God. The law in the Old Testament was created to show mankind that we will forever be unrighteous without Jesus, there is no way we could uphold that law without God. It had nothing to do with God’s creation being unclean, it had everything to do with sin causing a rift between people and God. The only way to close the gap is with the blood of Jesus, the ultimate sacrifice. With Jesus the law of faith was created, meaning we move through faith. We believe and have faith in Jesus and through faith we work. We work for Jesus because we have faith in Him. Faith in His blood makes us clean so we can live as God has called us to live.
The Holy Spirit inside helps us make godly decisions, we yearn for what God wants, we abstain from sin and when humanness takes the wheel sometimes. God grants grace through the blood of Jesus that continues to keep us clean. We confess and do our best through the Holy Spirit to not commit that sin. God created the plan, Jesus excuted the plan and the Holy Spirit perfects the plan in us every single moment until Christ comes to receive His people.
