spirit filled

I had one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time and it was all due to enjoying my own company. I know what I enjoy so I give it to myself on the regular…within reason. I enjoy arts and crafts, so I make it a habit. I enjoy going to the movies so I do my best to set aside time to frequent the movie theatre. I enjoy going on long walks so I make the time to experience nature trails. I’ve discovered what I like while also being open to other hobbies.

I laid awake in bed thinking about how great the day was. I couldn’t believe how wonderful the experience was. Simply going through the day, being my own best friend. I only did things I enjoyed and took the day slowly, not in a rush to be anywhere. I was even walking slowly and sleeping later, with no time constraint in sight. Making sure to cook dinner for myself because that is also a love language to myself.

I believe it’s really important to know what I like and who I am outside of anyone else. I know what I need to do to cheer myself up, I know what I need to process emotions in a healthy way. I know what needs to occur to best take care of myself. I live in complete contentment with myself. In turn, since I enjoy myself so much I’m able to enjoy others even more because I no longer rely on them for validation but I’m in their space because I enjoy it.

I reach out to my friends because I genuinely enjoy being around them. I call family because I genuinely want to know what’s going on in their lives. God has given me everything I need, I don’t need to call someone out of a necessity. That’s not to say that I don’t need people, yet I’ve learned how to call people when I don’t need anything as well. To truly create a relationship that is based on a mutual liking, it all stemmed from first liking myself.

So I went through the weekend enjoying my own company. It’s so easy to get caught up in the mundaneness of life, the routine of work and home. Yet I really enjoy those moments when I can step out of the routine and romanticize the things that bring me great comfort. Home. God has given me the great gift of knowing how to create a home. Not simply a residence but a space that  houses relaxation, comfort, safety from the outside world. A place where I am always welcomed, when I walk in the door immediately my shoulders drop, my heart rate slows and my face can drop. I’m home.

I look at the inner walls of my home and they hold art that I’ve created, things that bring serenity to my space. Warm lighting and an energy that praises God for the simple treasure of clean warm water. Praise that yearns to keep my home clean out of gratitude to the Most High. Worship that looks like being a good steward over my dwelling place. This home is more than walls, it’s a place where my soul can come and rest.

A place where God meets me in the most intimate ways. Safety for my animal,my little baby. Home is more than a house when the spirit fills it.
